Annual Solstice Fire at Earthteach Park PDF Print E-mail

Solstice BigFire?

Yes! But not in its customary location

The EarthTeach Forest Park annual reprise of the ancient practice of aiding the sun's return through the longest night will occur on

Monday, December 21

We will begin to gather at Dusk   Ignition of the BigFire will occur at 7 pm

In the gathering darkness, hard core celebrants: pagans, pyro-aficianados, and other hardy/hearty souls will

find the bonfire

(and the traditional chili and cider pots simmering)

3/4 of a mile up the main road

(near the Labyrinth, which may be candle-lit for walking depending on time, volunteer help and the weather).*

This year's location presents a mildly challenging hike along the main road. Figure on 15 minutes to make your way up from the parking area (unless you stop to converse with an owl or watch a fox).

There will be warming fires along the road for your walk up to the site.

Bring flashlights, warm boots (expect them to get muddy), layered clothing, a can or two of vegie chili and/or cider to add to the community pots, a drum, instruments if you like, season ending and beginning prayers and a song in your heart.

The forecast is for WET CONDITIONS, BUT NOT SNOW

Please park in the Entrance parking lot. There are a few spaces 1/4 mile up the road at the staff lot but not much maneuvering room. Thank you for NOT driving any further into the Park . Vehicles create a lot of road damage during the rainy-muddy periods

Join us in body and /or spirit for this ceremony of future/past gratitude for another wildfire-free season at EarthTeach and your much appreciated support.
