April 23-24: EarthTeach Overnight For 5th through 8th Graders PDF Print E-mail

The second EarthTeach overnight will be focusing on Leave No Trace (LNT) outdoor ethics practices.  Students will be carrying water filters, camp stoves, pots/pans, tens and lightweight food.  They will learn numerous techniques for lightweight packing and minimizing their impact upon the land.  Trip will have a Thursday 8am departure time and a 2:45pm Friday return.  Please contact Tonya Graham at 778-0718 if you are able to help drive the students or the gear.

Students will also be focusing on leaf identification, elevation mapping and altimeter and GPS, compass and orienteering courses, mental mapping, painting the identification shed, know tying, tarp hanging, camp organization and upkeep and preparing shared meals.

Students will need a sack lunch and afternoon snack for Thursday.  They should be prepared for all types of weather and have strategies for waterproofing their gear (packs lined with plastic bags, etc.).  Each student will also need 2 water bottles, warm layers and reliable footwear.
